The pretty colors of Fall. (Not the season)

Here are the latest of the knees following a week break from skating.
At least, I was able to skate last night.

Upgrade

I have been upgraded from Fresh Meat Nancy to Rotten Meat Nancy! I have been working with the team for several months and as I am told the meat gets old before it becomes a league member.

On a different note, I went recreational skating on Sunday night, got tripped and ended up with two sub-patella hematomas.  My knees look like rotten meat and I cannot skate for about 2 weeks.  My blog going forward will probably contain a number of expletives and grumpy faces.  Or I will be very quiet for another 10 days.  Only time will tell.

Damn, sh&*, f*&9...... Oh sorry, those just slipped out.

Ida Feltersnatch and Mona Lott

Great names are a right of passage in derby.  I NEED YOUR HELP!
I need to come up with a great derby name to register in a few months once I become a league member.
Names can be funny, sarcastic, tough, plays on movie titles but are always creative and many times have a hint of individual sexuality attached to them.  Some great names already in use are:  Ida Feltersnatch,  Aunti Climax,  Eva Lye,  5 Scar General,  A-killa the Hon,  Absinthe Minded,  Adoll Hitter,  Agent Mauldher,  Akin Keister,  Bash N Onya,  Darryl B Pain,  Gloria Hole,  Ivana Tripabitch,  Jehovah Hit-This,  Kat Von D Stroya,  Miss Terious,  Mona Lott,  Nancy Drew Blood,  Red Riding Hoodlum,  Ree Laps,  Shelby Hurtin,  Slap Tackle Pop,  Wrathmatician and many, many others.  The entire derby list of registered names can be found here:   http://www.twoevils.org/rollergirls/

Are you creative?   Can you come up with a humdinger?  Please help me think up some doozies.  I will host a cocktail party in December and we can read all the name suggestions at once, and I will choose a name to submit.   Please do not post them here as it would be much more fun to share them all together over drinks.  The winner receives a pair of top quality roller skates or some really cool swag from Derby Diva (your choice).

Today we practiced body/hip checks and blocking.

Today, Domestic Violet fell on me during an exercise.
Believe it or not, these don't (really) hurt until the next day or so.

The second photo is for JT who says he can't tell if these are really women's legs on my blog.
Dean doesn't paint his toes!

Put me in the zoo.

Left Bum (rink rash)
Above the knee
Ok, so this past week left a few mild bruises but pack training is almost finished and now we get to start to concentrate on scrimmaging.  My children have decided I am starting to look like the bear from Dr. Seuss's "Put me in the zoo".

Miracle healer

Dr. Hauschka is a miracle in a pouch.  Her Ouch! Aid Arnica Compress helps heal and relieves the pain of bumps, bruises and sprains.  The expression of my husband seeing these strips plastered all over my body was priceless.
His last comment was  "Are you working on your mummy halloween costume?"

Pack training taps.

The beginning....

My husband and constant source of irritation, I meant inspiration, has a long history as a skater.  He is into rhythm/dance and speed skating.  Last year he brought a few friends to a roller derby match in Yonkers, NY to see a Suburbia bout.  From this day on, skating to disco music no longer held meaning.  I had found my calling, aka midlife crisis!  I wanted to be a middle aged roller derby girl.  I am currently known as Fresh Meat Nancy.

This blog will attempt to follow my rise (and hopefully no fall) from Fresh Meat to League member. I will detail the painful journey each step of the way and attempt to include humorous annedotes when possible.

For your entertainment, please see Bruise #1 below. This 5 inch thigh mark of bravery is in it's 7th day of recovery. Thank goodness for Fall and black tights.
